We receive a summon from Abstalar Zantus at the Sandpont Cathedral to address a delicate matter. After feeding us, he asks what we know of the “shameful history of Sandpoint”. He tells us of a young baby that showed up on the steps of the Sandpoint Cathedral. 4684, the child grew to be a spirited young woman named Nuallia. Her foster father was Ezekin Tobin, Sandpoint’s religious leader, growing up in the church. By the time she was 10 it was obvious she was in fact Nephalim. Other children played cruel jokes on her, and the adults weren’t much better. Ezekin himself took advantage of the upswell in religious fervor caused by her presence, and also placed her under a strict curfew to preserve her “purity”. She eventually became pregnant by a man named Delek, and her father confined her to the church. This led to a series of events resulting in the fire that burned down the church, leaving her and her father dead… or so the people of Sandpoint thought. But Nualia survived the fire, and in fact lit the fire. Her monstrous child died after only moments. She turned to worship of Lamashtu, who demanded sacrifices to distance her from her past. She engineered an attack on Sandpoint, but her aims were thwarted by a band of adventurers.
He feels that Nualia deserves to know that the town has forgiven her. He’s spoken of this only to Audroni. She knows a ritual that can put us in contact with the spirits of the dead, so that Father Zantus can both apologize and forgive her. The complication is that, in order for the ritual to succeed, we need a physical link to her soul. Her belongings are long gone, and when they went to exhume her body, the found that the coffin had been tunnelled into from below. It leads to an underground tunnel below the boneyard. The claw marks under the coffin, and the tunnel itself, suggests ghouls. Ghouls have been a problem for decades. He offers various consumables to assist, as well as free healing and 75 gp each to defeat any ghouls and return her remains.
